Iron County police nab driver after 13-mile chase

IRON RIVER, MI--   A man is lodged in the Iron County Jail after he led police on a not-so-high-speed chase.

Monday around 1:40 p.m. a sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle showing signs of road rage in Iron River.  The deputy tried to stop the Jeep on US-2 near McDonald’s, but the driver ignored the lights and siren.

The Jeep continued eastbound on US-2 at speeds between 45 and 60 miles per hour.  Michigan State Police were eventually able to deploy “stop sticks”, which halted the driver after a 13-mile chase.

The suspect was arrested and lodged for following too close, disregarding a stop sign, fleeing and eluding, driving on a suspended license, and no proof of insurance.  His name is being withheld, pending arraignment.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
