IRON COUNTY, MI-- A DNR conservation officer got more than he bargained for when he made a routine patrol stop in Iron County last week.
Officer Dave Painter was patrolling Ice Lake February 16 and saw anglers with too many lines in the water. As he spoke with the subjects one admitted he’d shot an antlerless deer without a license during the December muzzleloader season.
Painter also discovered illegal drug activity and paraphernalia in the subject’s ice shanty.
He went to the subject’s house to retrieve the deer carcass and meat, and while there found a marijuana growing operation. Painter seized 33 plants.
The subject was arrested for the fishing violation. Warrants for the deer and marijuana violations were sought from the Iron County Prosecutor’s Office.
