Barricaded gunman accused of domestic assault in Houghton County

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A police standoff that lasted more than two hours in Portage Township has ended.  

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Bear Creek Road Monday around 3:45 a.m. to a possible domestic assault. 

When deputies arrived they discovered the suspect had a firearm.  The subject remained barricaded in his house until about 6 a.m., when deputies took the man into custody. 

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post assisted at the scene. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
