Protective Services referal leads to drug-related arrests in Ishpeming

UPDATE, 10:15pm - Ishpeming City Police have identified the three people arrested as 46-year old Robert Michael Kangas, Jr. of Marquette, 32-year old Candice Ann Bonner of Ishpeming, and 18-year old Taylor Marita Trezona of Big Bay. A preliminary hear has been set for July 17th in Marquette District Court.

  ISHPEMING, MI - Three Marquette County residents have been arrested on drug charges following a referral from Protective Services. Ishpeming police say the three were arrested Tuesday at 429 East High Street. The investigation revealed a 46-year old man was taking care of his 1-and-a-half year old child while under the influence of methamphetamine. Also arrested at the scene were the child’s 32-year old mother and an unrelated 18-year old woman from Big Bay. The child was taken into protective custody and treated at Bell Hospital for possible exposure to methamphetamine. Another child, a 13-year old from Marquette, was also take to Bell for examination. The three suspects were lodged in the Marquette County jail, and the County Prosecutor’s office today authorized each suspect to be charged with ‘controlled substance – operating/maintaining a laboratory in presence of a minor’ and ‘controlled substance – operating/maintaining a laboratory involving methamphetamine.’ Bond was set at $100,00o on each count. The three suspects remain in jail awaiting arraignment.

The Ishpeming Police were assisted at the scene by members of UPSET, the Negaunee Police, Child Protective Services, and the Ishpeming Fire Department.
