Retired Marquette priest investigated on abuse charges

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Diocese of Marquette has announced that sexual abuse allegations against one of its priests have been deemed credible.

In a press release Tuesday the diocese said the claims are against father James Menapace.  The incidents occurred in the late 1990s when Menapace was retired from active ministry and allegedly involved male minors.

Officials say the allegations have been reported to police and Menapace has been removed from all public priestly ministry.  He’s also been prohibited from presenting himself as a priest in accordance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
