Homicide reported in Mackinac County

ST. IGNACE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A shooting in Mackinac County has left one person dead and one in jail. 

Troopers from the St. Ignace Post were called to a residence at N4430 Mackinac Trail in St. Ignace Township Friday around 9:23 p.m.  They found the body of homeowner Richard McKenzie, 75.  He had died of gunshot wounds. 

Officials say a suspect was arrested at the scene. 

The Mackinac County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case for charges.  The suspect remains lodged in the county jail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
