WI man charged in New Year stabbing in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   The suspect in a Marquette New Year’s Day stabbing incident has been arraigned.

Casey Kallio, 26, of Ewen has been living in Niagara, Wisconsin.  He was allegedly slashing tires on the 400 block of Washington Street around 12:10 a.m. when Christopher Koory, 24, of Marquette approached him.  Officials say Kallio stabbed Koory in the abdomen.  Alcohol is considered a factor.

Koory was taken to U.P. Health System Marquette with non-life-threatening injuries.

Kallio is charged with assault to do great bodily harm less than murder, punishable by up to ten years in prison.  He’s also charged with malicious destruction of property between $200 and $1,000, punishable by up to one year.

Kallio remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $105,000 bond.  A preliminary hearing is set for January 15.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
