Newberry Correctional Facility employee arrested for soliciting murder

NEWBERRY, MI--   A Newberry man is jailed on a charge of solicitation to commit murder.

Troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post say Jason Lee Bufford, 37, was arrested after a lengthy investigation by detectives into his actions as an employee of the Newberry Correctional Facility.

The Department of Corrections says Bufford was suspended without pay last month.

Bufford was lodged in the Luce County Jail on a $500,000 bond, but has since been transferred to the Chippewa County Jail.  A probable cause hearing is set for March 23.

Solicitation to commit murder is punishable by up to life in prison.
