Man arrested after leading police on chase into Kingsford

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   An Iron Mountain man is in the Dickinson County Jail, following an alleged domestic violence incident and high-speed chase.

City Police were called early Saturday morning to the 400 block of Fairbanks Street on a report of a possible assault.  When they arrived officers saw a vehicle leaving the scene.  They chased the vehicle through town and into Kingsford, where the suspect stopped on East Breen Avenue and ran into a house.  Police say he then armed himself with a knife, locked himself in a room, and threatened suicide.

The 22-year-old man did wound himself in the neck before officers were able to take him into custody.  The suspect was treated medically and psychologically before he was taken to jail.

The suspect’s name has not been released, pending arraignment.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
