UPDATE: Marquette deputies look for Mangum Farm walkaway

UPDATE, 6/3/15:  City Police received a tip early Wednesday that Carter was in Marquette.  At 6:30 a.m. he was arrested without incident at that address.  Carter was taken to the Marquette County Jail and lodged for escape from jail, a felony punishable by up to two years in prison. 

The Sheriff's Office would like to thank the public for all the tips it received and local law enforcement agencies for their assistance.

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is on the lookout for a school-release inmate who didn’t return to the Mangum Farm Detention Center Monday. 

Deputies say Cory Carter, 24, didn’t attend class at NMU and failed to report back to the center at 4:45 p.m., as required.  Officials believe he may be in the Marquette or Sawyer areas. 

Carter is 6’2”, 215 pounds and has a tattoo that says “Carter” on his back.  He was last seen wearing a red shirt, red ball cap, and blue jeans. 

Carter is serving a one-year sentence for unlawful use of a motor vehicle. 

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Sheriff’s Office at 225-8434.    

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
