Marquette owl shooter sought

MARQUETTE, MI--   Authorities want to find the person who shot a great horned owl with a pellet gun in Marquette.

The Raptor Center in Chocolay Township received a call Thursday about an owl in the street by the fire department.

When the bird was X-rayed officials discovered it had been shot with a pellet gun and had a broken bone.  Once the bone heals Raptor Center personnel will work to strengthen the owl’s muscles with an eye toward releasing it.

The center is offering a $100 reward for information leading to the shooter.  Anyone with information is asked to call Marquette Police at 228-0400.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
