MARQUETTE, MI (AP)-- A Gogebic County woman is in hot water after collecting thousands of dollars from booze makers in a rebate scam that involved a computer and printer.
Carol Rae Vitton, 59, of Ironwood was charged last week with mail fraud. She's accused of creating more than 700 sales receipts to get $9,000 in rebates.
Defense attorney Karl Numinen says a guilty plea is planned in federal court in Marquette. He says Vitton is remorseful and has pledged to repay the money.
He declined to comment on Vitton's possible sentence. The scheme started in September 2010 and lasted a year.
