Troopers chase B&E suspect through Keweenaw

TORCH LAKE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Calumet man is jailed, after he led Michigan State Police on a chase through Houghton County.

Troopers were called Thursday around 5 p.m. to a residence on Bootjack Road in Torch Lake Township on a report of a breaking-and-entering in progress.  A neighbor say a man go into the house, then leave and drive away in a Ford Escape.  The responding trooper tried to stop the suspect, but the man fled.  The officer pursued the vehicle for more than ten miles along Traprock Valley Road through Copper City, then north on US-41 and finally onto 5 Mile Point Road, where the suspect turned onto Gratiot River Road.  He continued driving two miles until he became stuck in snow.

The driver wouldn’t cooperate with troopers, who had to remove him from his vehicle.  He was lodged in the Houghton County Jail on a charge of fleeing and eluding.  Additional charges are possible.
