Embezzlement charge levied against former Seney Township treasurer

SENEY TOWNSHIP, MI--   A former Seney Township treasurer has been charged with embezzling money from the municipality.

WLUC-TV says Shawna Haines will be arraigned in Schoolcraft County District Court Wednesday on one count of embezzlement and four counts of uttering and publishing.  She’s allegedly admitted to Township Supervisor Marc Schooley and the township board that she took about $28,000 in extra paychecks since September.

The township has a new treasurer and is reportedly not having any financial difficulties.

Officials want restitution if Haines is convicted.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
