Forsyth Township man charged with strangling his girlfriend

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Sawyer man is jailed for assaulting his live-in girlfriend.

On Tuesday Forsyth Township Police responded to a call about a possible suicidal subject and domestic assault on the 400 block of Stratofort.  When they arrived the victim said Steven Devalle, 42, had choked her and prevented her from calling 911. When she was able to get away Devalle fled the scene.

The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office authorized one count of assault by strangulation—a 10-year felony—and interfering with electronic communications—a 2-year felony.

Shortly after the authorization Devalle was found at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.  A deputy had taken him there after Devalle crashed his vehicle into some woods on US-41 South and Perkins 30.5 Road.

Devalle is lodged in the Marquette County Jail on 10 percent of a $70,000 bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
