Woman stabbed to death in Forsyth Township

GWINN, MI--    A Gwinn woman was stabbed to death in a Dart Street residence early Thursday morning.

Forsyth Township Police were called around 1 a.m. and found Robbin Lampinen, 53, dead in a bedroom. 

Evidence at the scene indicated it had been a stabbing.

Darrell Gutzman, 51, of Marquette was identified as a suspect in the case.  He fled the scene before officers arrived. 

Using media outlets and social media Forsyth Township officers provided details about Gutzman and what he was driving.  Around 6:20 Thursday morning an Ishpeming woman called police and said Gutzman was sleeping on a couch in her 4th Street apartment.

Gutzman was taken into custody without incident.  He was lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a charge of open murder. 

Forsyth Township Police were assisted by Michigan State Police, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Ishpeming City Police, and Forsyth Township EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
