Marquette County woman arrested for forging checks

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Republic woman has been arrested on uttering and publishing charges. 

The Marquette Police Department says Melinda Mongiat-Gransinger, 29, was taken into custody Wednesday following a fraud investigation.  She’s accused of cashing a deceased relative’s checks.

Mongiat-Gransinger was arraigned on three counts of uttering and publishing.  She remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a bond of 10 percent of $30,000.

Each count is punishable by up to 14 years in prison.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
