Fire, missing money and guns investigated at Houghton County home

STANTON TOWNSHIP, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post are investigating a suspicious fire and missing items at a Stanton Township home. 

The fire—which was reported Friday around 10:20 p.m. near Houghton Canal Road and Osma Plat Road—destroyed the house. After the fire was extinguished by Stanton and Adams Township fire departments the homeowner discovered money and guns were missing.

Troopers are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious vehicles or people in the area between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday to contact them at 906-337-5145.  Callers can remain anonymous.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
