UPDATE: Ishpeming man crashes truck after fleeing police

UPDATE:   Authorities have released the name of the man arrested in the incident. Harley J. Veiht, 17, of Ishpeming was arraigned Friday on the following charges: third-degree fleeing a police officer, fourth degree fleeing a police officer, and operating while intoxicated.

Veiht posted a $2,000 bond and was released.

NEGAUNEE, MI--   A 17-year-old Ishpeming man has been arrested, following a police chase early Friday morning. 

Around 1:17 a.m. officers from the Negaunee Police Department tried to stop a vehicle that had earlier fled from Ishpeming officers. They saw the green Chevy pickup driving north on Merry Street in Old Town Negaunee, but when they tried to stop the driver, he fled. A chase led from Merry to Bluff Street, then back into Old Town. The chase ended when the driver crashed into a row of trees.

No injuries were reported.

The driver—a 17-year-old man from Ishpeming—was arrested for operating while intoxicated and fourth-degree fleeing and eluding.

Two 18-year-old male passengers were cited for minor in possession of alcohol.

The Ishpeming Police Department assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
