Eastern U.P. man points firearm at deputies

MACKINAC COUNTY, MI--   A Mackinac County man is in custody, after he aimed a gun at deputies.

The Sheriff’s Office was called Sunday around 6:30 p.m. to a residence on a report of a felon in possession of a firearm with children in the home. When deputies arrived at the home a man appeared and leveled a long gun at them. One of the deputies fired at the man and struck him in the hand.

The suspect was taken to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Search warrants have been requested for the residence and several charges are being sought.

No names have been released.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
