Police chase stolen vehicle in Delta County

ESCANABA TOWNSHIP, MI--   A man is lodged in the Delta County Jail for stealing a vehicle.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Monday around 6:10 p.m. to Escanaba Township where a woman said her vehicle had been taken and was last seen heading northbound on M-35. At 7:30 p.m. an officer saw the vehicle driving in the Boney Falls area and pursued it southbound on County Road 426. A deputy was stationed at Carols Corner, where he had deployed “stop sticks.” They caused both driver’s side tires to gradually deflate.

When the driver continued eastbound on County Road 420 both tires came off their rims. The driver failed to negotiate the curve at the top of South Hill Road, went into the “bowl” area, then reentered South Hill Road and lost control. The vehicle came to rest in the ditch at US-41.

The 37-year-old suspect was arrested for unlawfully driving away an automobile and fleeing and eluding.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
