Ishpeming Police working to identify body found in city

ISHPEMING, MI--   A body has been found in Ishpeming.

Friday at 12:42 p.m. the Ishpeming Police Department received a call from a subject riding a mountain bike that he had found a body in the field northwest of the Ishpeming football field. The body was a female that appeared to be 20 to 30 years old.

No positive identification has yet been made. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Ishpeming Police contacted the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and a forensic anthropologist from Northern Michigan University to assist at the scene. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.

Investigation into the death continues. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call Ishpeming Police at 486-4416.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
