State Police arrest caregiver in L'Anse toddler's death

L'ANSE, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post have arrested a 37-year-old L’Anse woman in the death of a 2-year-old boy last year.

The homicide-felony murder warrant was served on the unnamed woman on the one-year anniversary of the death of Walker Meyers, also of L’Anse.

On December 23, 2017 an unresponsive Meyers was brought to the Baraga County Memorial Hospital emergency room by his caregiver. He was immediately flown to Milwaukee Children’s Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Medical experts determined the manner of death was homicide.

The suspect will be arraigned Friday in Baraga County District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
