NEWBERRY, MI-- Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post have arrested a Newberry man for attempted murder.
Thursday around 7 p.m. a citizen said a subject broke into his home, fired several shots at him, and struck him with the firearm. The victim was able to flee the residence and report the assault.
The suspect, found to be related to the victim, was located at his own residence around 11 p.m. The man refused to give himself up to police.
Troopers and deputies from the Luce County Sheriff’s Office requested help from the MSP Emergency Support Team. EST members negotiated with the suspect for several hours. The man eventually surrendered and was taken into custody around 2:20 a.m. Friday.
No one was injured in the incident, which remains under investigation.
MSP detectives, canine officers, the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, and Luce County EMS assisted with the case.
