ISHPEMING, MI-- An Ishpeming woman has been arrested for filing a false police report.
The Ishpeming Police Department says on April 14 Robin Vandezande, 49, reported the larceny of $622.17 from her vehicle. Vandezande said she believed someone entered her vehicle when she was inside Elaine’s Party Store on Vine Street earlier that evening, paying for gas. She said the money was in a brown paper bag stuffed in her purse on the floor in the rear of the vehicle. The money was a deposit from her business, Uptown Gifts.
Officers reviewed surveillance video from Elaine’s Party Store and saw no one entering Vandezande’s vehicle. She then admitted she had stopped by her business in the Gossard Building and also went to the casino that night. Video from those places revealed no one had tried to enter her vehicle.
Officers determined Vandezande was at the casino for a few hours earlier that day, and for a length of time the day before.
Vandezande was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of filing a false police report. She was released on a personal recognizance bond.
