Stanton Township man arrested after pointing rifle at deputy

STANTON TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Houghton County man is jailed for pointing a firearm at a sheriff’s deputy.

Sunday around 8:40 p.m. officers responded to a report of a person peeking into a window at a Stanton Township camp. The 36-year-old suspect left the scene in a vehicle, but was found a short distance away at another residence.

Deputies say while at the second residence the suspect pointed a loaded rifle at an officer. They were able to get the firearm away from the Stanton Township man without any injuries.

The rifle was identified as being stolen from a residence in Portage Township last week.

The suspect was arrested and lodged in the Houghton County Jail on multiple felony charges.
