Suspect in Iron Mountain break-ins arrested

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   Authorities have an Iron Mountain man in custody for the breaking and entering of several businesses in the city Friday.

Iron Mountain Police were notified around 6 a.m. that someone had entered the Downtown Plaza and broken into six businesses inside. Mainly cash was stolen.

After several hours of investigation officers developed a suspect. At about 1:15 p.m. the 36-year-old man was found hiding in a wooded area near US-2 and Michigan Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident. Evidence related to the break-ins was recovered from the suspect and his apartment.

The unnamed suspect was out on bond for an unrelated break-in when he was arrested Friday. New formal charges are expected this week.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
