Rudyard student arrested for carrying fake gun, making threats

RUDYARD, MI--   Officials with Rudyard Area Schools investigated a student for possibly having a handgun and making threats Wednesday morning.

The Chippewa County School Liaison Deputy Sheriff responded and met with the administration. They identified and detained the suspect student, who had an imitation handgun in his backpack.

Further investigation indicated the student had threatened to shoot another student and to shoot up the school.

The 17-year-old was taken into custody and found to be on probation. He was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail on a probation violation and additional charges are expected.

A report is being forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for review.
