Dogs, wildlife fatally poisoned in northeastern WI counties

MADISON, WI--   The Wisconsin DNR and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service say poison has led to the deaths of dogs and wildlife in public lands over the past year in northeastern Wisconsin.

Officials say several domestic dogs, including two hunting beagles, have died in Forest, Marinette and Florence counties. Investigators have also found fatally poisoned raptors, wolves, coyotes, weasels and raccoons. Lab tests confirmed dangerous toxic substances were the cause of death in those cases.

It’s unknown if other counties are involved.

Residents are urged to be aware of where they’re walking their dogs along roads in those counties.

Anyone with information regarding the deaths is asked to call the Wisconsin DNR Violation hotline at 1-800-TIP-WDNR or 1-800-847-9367.
