GIANT officers seize drugs, weapons during Gogebic County traffic stop

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team has arrested a Minnesota man suspected of distributing drugs in Wisconsin and Michigan.

On Tuesday officers conducted a traffic stop in Ironwood Township. They seized meth, heroin, prescription narcotics, multiple weapons, and more than $2,000.

GIANT officers arrested Daniel Saarela, 33. He’s charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession with intent to deliver meth, felony firearms, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of weapons-metallic knuckles, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Saarela remains lodged in the Gogebic County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
