Arrests made in Iron Mountain cemetery vandalism case

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   Iron Mountain Police have arrested two men believed to have damaged headstones at Cemetery Park on April 6. 

At least 32 headstones were kicked over, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Darian Unrein, 19, and Harley Sherk, 25, are charged with malicious destruction of tombs and memorials—between $1,000 and $20,000. Sherk is also charged with being a habitual offender—3rd offense.

Officials say investigation of this case solved several other misdemeanor malicious destruction of property complaints in Iron Mountain and Kingsford.

Both men remain lodged in the Dickinson County Jail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
