Eastern UP men arrested in multi-agency investigation

SUGAR ISLAND, MI--   Two Sugar Island men have been arrested in a sting involving the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, UPSET and TRIDENT. 

Tuesday around 6 a.m. multiple search warrants were executed on Sugar Island and in Sault Ste. Marie and Pickford. Deputies and troopers were investigating the same group of people on different types of cases. Two men were arrested and evidence assisting both investigations was recovered.

Michael McDonald, 49, is charged with:

  • 5 counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, by strangulation
  • 2 counts of felon in possession of a firearm
  • 2 counts of felon in possession firearm device and ammunition
  • a sex offender registry violation
  • 2 counts of 3rd degree felony child abuse
  • domestic assault
  • being a habitual offender

Christopher Lamott, 31, is charged with:

  • assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, by strangulation
  • a felony weapons offense
  • 3rd degree child abuse
  • aggravated domestic assault

Charges from the Michigan State Police investigation are expected in the near future.
