Vandalism discovered at Suicide Bowl

NEGAUNEE, MI--   The Ishpeming Ski Club says someone vandalized the Suicide Bowl ski jumping complex in Negaunee twice this month.

About a week ago the sprinkler system on the ski hill was heavily damaged. Sprinkler heads were destroyed and some of the piping was disconnected and damaged. Between last Wednesday and Thursday afternoon vandals hit the Norman Juhola cross-country trail system. Several trail map kiosks were either shot or run over by a vehicle. A padlock on a gate to keep vehicles off the trails was cut. The subjects used a chainsaw to cut down mature trees so that they fell across the trail.

Head Ski Jumping Coach Gary Rasmussen says it will take significant volunteer time and ski club funding to fix the damage. The club is seeking donations to make repairs.
