SAULT STE. MARIE, MI-- The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for stealing money from an area gas station.
On Sunday the man walked into the station as the clerks were processing cash behind the counter. He reached over and grabbed $500, then ran out of the store. Deputies got a description of the suspect and his vehicle from surveillance video.
The Sheriff’s Office and Trident detectives were on the lookout for the man for a few days, then on Wednesday saw the vehicle in Sault Ste. Marie. They followed the suspect into a housing complex. Officers discovered the man had stolen a carton of cigarettes from another gas station just minutes earlier.
Officers arrested Andrew Michael Paul and executed a search warrant at his residence. Clothing matching what he wore at the time of the first robbery was recovered.
Paul is charged with larceny from a building and retail fraud.
