Arrest made in Marquette County death

MARQUETTE, MI--   A man has been arrested in connection with human remains found behind the Ojibwa Casino in Marquette County.

WLUC-TV reports the body was found Friday night on a two-track just south of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Reservation. The remains were on fire.

Michigan State Police and federal agents found a white van at the victim’s home. It matched the vehicle seen on surveillance footage at the crime scene.

When authorities went to the house Hunter Loos answered the door. He admitted he and the female victim had gotten into an altercation and he stabbed her several times. Loos said she died on the couch a short time later. He then covered the body with a blanket and drove it in the white van to the two-track, where he set it on fire.

The victim was a member of the KBIC Ojibwa Tribe. Loos is not.

A detention hearing is set for November 5.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
