Marquette woman charged in fatal accident

MARQUETTE, MI--   The driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal accident near Marquette Mountain last month faces four felonies.

Brianna Jacobson, 21, is charged with operating while intoxicated causing death, 2nd-degree child abuse and two counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury.

Jacobson was the driver of a southbound vehicle that hit a northbound vehicle on M-553 on October 23. Andrew Auston, 25, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. A 4-year-old boy was taken to UPHS-Marquette, then transferred to Motts Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he’s still being treated. A 28-year-old Marquette man was treated at UPHS-Marquette and eventually released.

No one in the northbound vehicle was injured.

Jacobson remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
