Marquette prison sees another assault

MARQUETTE, MI--   Officials are reporting another assault by an inmate at Marquette Branch Prison.

Sunday around 12:45 p.m. an officer was conducting a routine cell shakedown when the prisoner whose cell it was became upset, entered the cell and began to assault him. The officer defended himself until other officers arrived, gained control of the prisoner and removed him from the area.

The officer had bruising, abrasions, and injuries to his hand. He was taken by ambulance to UPHS-Marquette and released later that day.

That marks the third assault at the prison this year. Another corrections officer and a prison counselor were assaulted February 27 and March 3, respectively.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
