MDOC reports 5th prisoner assault on an employee at Marquette Branch Prison

MARQUETTE, MI--   Another corrections officer has been assaulted by an inmate at Marquette Branch Prison.

The Michigan Department of Corrections says it happened Saturday around 2:15 p.m. A prisoner was being released from his cell to go to the yard when he began hitting the officer in the head with closed fists. The officer who was attacked and other officers got the prisoner under control and removed him from the area.

The officer who was attacked was taken to UPHS-Marquette within 20 minutes for evaluation and treatment. They were released from the hospital about an hour later.

The incident marks at least the fifth assault on employees at the prison since the beginning of the year.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
