Police say missing Kinross boy was picked up by TN suspects he met online

KINROSS, MI--   Police have found a missing 13-year-old Kinross boy in Tennessee.

Kinross District Police Chief Joe Micolo says the boy was reported missing Thursday. Initial investigation led officials to believe he was possibly picked up by unknown suspects from another state.

Kinross Police were assisted by the Sault Tribe Police Department, the FBI, and officers from Homeland Security Investigations in Michigan and Chattanooga, Tennessee. Through those partnerships police located the 13-year-old at a residence in Athens, TN. He was taken into protective custody and his family was notified.

Micolo says the connection between the boy and the suspects was established through social media apps. He’s reminding parents to talk to their children about the dangers of communicating with strangers on social media.

The suspects who had the child had previously been investigated and were on the FBI database for their involvement with sex crimes.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
