Arrests made in Calumet Township camp theft

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people have been arrested in connection with a breaking-and-entering at a Calumet Township camp.

The home on Lakeshore Drive was entered Sunday or Monday and a number of items—including guns—were taken. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was notified Tuesday that a man was seen walking around the camp. No one was found at the site, but deputies learned a man and woman had been observed near the area over the past several days.

Officers searched an old Boy Scout cabin along the Gardener Creek Walking Trails. They found the man and woman, along with several of the items that were taken from the camp.

The two suspects were arrested and lodged in the Houghton County Jail.

The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office and its K-9 assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
