Skandia man charged with home invasion, assault

SKANDIA, MI--   A Skandia man was arrested earlier this month for going into a home and assaulting someone.

One June 11 troopers from the Negaunee Post were called to a residence on Carlshend Road. They say Derrek McMaster, 35, had broken into the house and assaulted occupants within.

The house was occupied by a woman and two children at the time of the incident. No one was injured.

McMaster was arrested and charged with home invasion, unlawful imprisonment and several weapons-related charges. He was arraigned in 96th District Court in Marquette.

The incident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
