Fatal stabbing in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette Police captured a suspect in a fatal stabbing in the city after he fled the scene Sunday morning.

Around 1 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Furnace Street on a report a 61-year-old resident had been stabbed. The suspect, identified as Curtis Contois, 38, of Marquette, ran from the scene. A search was launched with K-9 assistance, but Contois couldn’t be found.

The victim died a short time later at UPHS-Marquette.

City Police say with community help Contois was eventually captured and arrested.

No other details have been released at this time.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
