Inmate who fled Schoolcraft County Jail back behind bars

MANISTIQUE, MI— An inmate who escaped from the Schoolcraft County Jail was recaptured Saturday.

Sheriff’s officials say around 8:30 a.m. the inmate left the facility on foot. The suspect attempted to hide at a few known residences in the city of Manistique but was found and arrested by Manistique Public Safety officers and Michigan State Police troopers and brought back to jail. The inmate was away from the facility for less than an hour.

The suspect was initially lodged at the jail on a felony charge. The name of the inmate is being withheld until a report can be reviewed for further charges.

The investigation is ongoing and charges may be brought against outside individuals.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
