Pills stolen from deceased tenant's Calumet home

LAURIUM, MI— Two Laurium residents were arrested this week for stealing prescription drugs from a Calumet home.

On Monday Houghton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a breaking and entering complaint in Calumet. Investigation revealed several suspects stole prescription pills from the deceased tenant.

Deputies executed a search warrant in Laurium on Tuesday. That resulted in the arrest of a 47-year-old man for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. A 41-year-old woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Police say the incident remains under investigation and additional suspects and charges are expected.

Officials say prescription drug abuse and theft can be prevented by bringing old and unwanted pills to the Sheriff’s Office to be destroyed, no questions asked.
