Classes canceled in Gwinn due to threat of violence

GWINN, MI— Gwinn Area Community Schools are closed Monday because of a threat of violence made on social media.

Superintendent Brandon Bruce says the district received the threat Sunday night on Instagram. District officials contacted law enforcement and will be working with police to investigate the incident. Bruce says all resources will be used to deal with the threat.

In the meantime, classes were canceled to keep students and staff safe.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
