SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— The Tri-County Drug Enforcement Team arrested two Sault Ste. Marie residents on drug charges Tuesday night.

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office says a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle in the city. It resulted in search warrants being executed on the vehicle and a Soo residence.

Trident seized a large amount of meth.

Arrested were 24-year-old Ford Smart and 31-year-old Katie Jo Howe. Smart is charged with possession with intent to deliver meth. Howe is charged with possession of meth and 4th-degree child endangerment.

Both were arraigned Wednesday in 91st District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
