Police continue investigation into Sawyer domestic violence/torture case

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI— Forsyth Township Police continue to investigate a domestic violence incident last week that included torture.

On June 27 officers were called to the 100 block of Fury Street at Sawyer. Upon arrival, they learned the suspect, 33-year-old Branden Klyk, had fled the scene.

The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the case and authorized the following charges against Klyk:

  • domestic assault—3rd offense
  • two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder
  • unlawful imprisonment
  • torture
  • 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct
  • malicious destruction of property
  • larceny in a building

With the assistance of the State of Michigan Probation/Parole Division, officers found Klyk in Alger County. He turned himself in on Wednesday to the Marquette County Sheriff's Office.

Klyk remains jailed on a $280,000 bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
