Man taken into protective custody in Iron Mt

(IRON MOUNTAIN, MI) - A man is in custody following a reported assault in Iron Mountain

City police were dispatched to the 400 block of East ‘A’ Street early in the afternoon Saturday. A caller to 9-1-1 reported an assault in a back yard.

When officers arrived on the scene, the male suspect ran into a trailer and barricaded himself inside. Negotiations were begun first by responding patrol officers and then by members of the Critical Incident Response Team. The man was armed with a knife and was considered suicidal. He was taken into custody after deployment of Bean Bag rounds. Officers placed him in protective custody, and he is receiving treatment.

Charges are pending following an official review by the Dickinson County Prosecutor.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police… officers from the DNR… the Iron Mountain Fire Department… and Integrity Care EMS.
