Marquette man jailed for break-in and assault in separate incidents

(Marquette, MI) - A Marquette man is jailed following a break-in at the Marquette Senior Center. City Police were dispatched at approximately 1 this morning to the area of 300 West Baraga Street for the sound of breaking glass. Officers arrived at the scene to find 28-year old Brett Thomas Oday with injuries to his hands. Officers found three windows of the Senior Center had been damaged. After further investigation, Oday was arrested for Malicious Destruction of Property over $1000 and under $20,000

Following the arrest, officers learned Oday may have also been involved in a felonious assault on the 400 block of West Washington Street. A male victim reported he was sitting in his truck and Oday broke a window out of the truck with his bicycle. The victim advised he was pulled from the truck and assaulted further by Oday using the bicycle to hit him. The victim sustained injuries to his head and was being treated at the Upper Peninsula Health System Emergency Department for his injuries, which were reported as non-life threatening.

In addition to the previous investigation, Brett Oday was arrested for Felonious Assault, along with the Malicious Destruction of Property charge. Oday is currently lodged at the Marquette County Jail. An arraignment date on the felony charges have not been set.
