Troopers make arrest in Marquette child sexual exploitation case

Marquette County Sheriff's Office

MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette man has been arrested for attempting to have sex with a child.

The Michigan State Police 8th District Hometown Security Team began an investigation into child sexual predators in the Marquette area. A trooper with the team was posing as a minor on an investigative social media account when a 41-year-old man started conversing and asked to meet up for sex. Numerous messages were exchanged between the trooper and the suspect.

On September 7 a female trooper acted as a decoy near Marquette Senior High School. Detectives conducted surveillance and watched the suspect come out of his apartment. As the suspect approached the trooper, he was taken into custody.

Royce Hagemeister was arrested and charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes, child sexually abusive activity, and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

Hagemeister was arraigned Thursday in 96th District Court. He remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

The Marquette Police Department assisted at the scene.

If anyone has information regarding additional victims with this suspect or area, please contact the Michigan State Police, Eighth District Headquarters.
